May Update: YVRTA Sets Course at Retreat + Building the Organizational Backbone
The YVRTA Board meets Monday, May 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Hayden Town Hall (178 West Jefferson Avenue) and online via Zoom. Monday's agenda continues to build the organization: an RFQ for interim accounting services, an RFP for an executive director search firm, and the authority's open records policy; committee updates, and a check-in on the board retreat at the end of the month.

A First Board Retreat at Carpenter Ranch
The YVRTA Board holds its inaugural retreat on Saturday, May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Carpenter Ranch, facilitated by former Steamboat Springs City Manager Gary Suiter. The Steamboat Pilot has more on the announcement.
The Board plans to step through a road map for the authority, with short-term wins, a two-to-five-year horizon, service priorities and capital projects, and longer-range funding strategy. This is the conversation that will shape what the YVRTA actually does in its first decade.
The retreat is open to the public, with a Zoom option to be posted alongside the final retreat agenda. If you have priorities for service, funding, or operations that you want the Board to consider, please consider sending feedback to your jurisdiction's YVRTA Board members, or share them during public comment at the May 18 meeting. You can also reply to this newsletter and we will pass them along.
RFP/RFQ Opportunities
Monday's meeting moves the YVRTA's operational backbone forward. If you know professionals who would be interested in either opportunity, please pass along the meeting details.
Executive Director Search Firm RFP. The Staffing Assessment Committee has drafted an RFP for a national executive search firm. Monday's resolution authorizes the solicitation.
Interim Accounting RFQ. The Board will authorize an RFQ for a part-time contractual accountant to handle daily financial operations while permanent staffing comes together.
SkiCorp's First $500K Lands
At the April 27 board meeting, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. delivered a $500,000 check to the YVRTA, the first installment of a pledged $1 million per year over three years. Board Chair Sonja Macys said the contribution enables "quick decisions amid grant pursuits." SkiCorp President Dave Hunter framed it simply: "Let's keep the momentum going."
That is a significant private contribution to a brand new public authority, and real momentum heading into the retreat.
Local News on Steamboat Springs Transit
Steamboat City Council recently held a worksession with Steamboat Springs Transit, walking through ridership, operations, and the road ahead. Worth a watch if you want to understand the well-run system the YVRTA will work closely with. There are also early signals about how the YVRTA and SST will work together.
Memorial Day Service to the Cemetery
On the morning of Monday, May 25, Steamboat Springs Transit will run buses from Stockbridge to the Steamboat Springs Cemetery for Memorial Day services. A small thing, but the kind of community service that shows what a well-run local transit system can do.
See you Monday, May 18 at Hayden Town Hall, or on Zoom. And possibly out at Carpenter Ranch on May 30.
